This art-stuff has been bugging me for a while now, and specifically one thing.
Everybody today agrees on an intellectual level that there isn’t just artist - spectator but there is an artist/material producer (I will refer to it as A/MP) and an artist/spectator (A/S), both has an essential part in the making of art. Grasping this on an intellectual plane however doesn’t really matter if it has no influence on your work.
When talking to my mother about this she said that in her art she considers the artist as both an A/MP and an A/S. During the making of the art the artist’s an A/MP but after the work is finished it will have to re-evaluate the artwork from an A/S perspective. Therefore one cannot claim the insight or the status of an A/MP when the work is finished.
In, for example, some roleplaying works the A/MP is partially or completely distributed among the participants. This is also a satisfying solution.
My problem is that neither of these methods works with the art I want to do at the moment.
My mother’s work is very suggestive and general, roleplaying is always general.
I want to do specific art.
I want my art to be a thesis that forces the A/S not only to take a stance pro or con my thesis but formulate an own thesis.
If someone has some thoughts about this or know of any previous approaches on this matter, please share. |
